These steps will get you started using the electronic
whiteboard (Smartboard) in 107 Sill Hall . READ ALL
THE INSTRUCTION BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO USE THE PRODUCT.
Powering up and starting the software:
1. Push the power button on the laptop.
2. Flip the power-switch on the projector (will take
2 minutes to power on).
3. When the computer and projector are done booting
up, you will need to switch the screen to display
through the projector. This is done by holding down
the green FN key (bottom left) and pressing the green
LCD/LRT button (top left) twice on the laptop keyboard.
You should now see the display on both the laptop
screen and through the projector.
4. When the computer has finished booting up you
will see a program window appear for the Smartboard
software. This is where your screen captures will
be stored. It is important to now launch the screen
capture utility. This is done by clicking on the TOOLS
menu at the top.
5. Next, click on the SCREENCAPTURE option. You will
see a little box with three buttons appear on your
screen. This is the screen capture menu.
6. Drag this menu off to a corner somewhere, so it
doesn't interfere with your presentation.
7. Now that we have the Smartsoftware up, and the
screen capture utility running, we can proceed to
do our presentation. Open the application you wish
to use and begin pointing, drawing, highlighting,
whatever.
Dos and Don'ts to remember:
1. Do not move the projector, for you will need to
recalibrate it is you do. To do this use the CALIBRATE/ORIENTATE
option in the TOOLS menu.
2. Do not forget to turn all equipment off when done
using it.
3. DO NOT leave the door to 107 unlocked when the
room is empty.
4. Do remember that your finger, on the whiteboard,
acts just like a mouse.
5. To bring up an interactive keyboard click the
KEYBOARD button on the bottom, right corner of the
Smartboard.
6. Each pen location, in the Smartboard tray, symbolizes
a different color; NOT the pen itself. There is a
pressure/motion sensor in each compartment. So, remember
to put the pen back when you are done.
7. The eraser can be used for regular dry erase markers
as well as the special pens.
