Short Bio:

Bob Chapman received a Ph.D. in biophysical chemistry from Yale University. Following post-doctoral studies, he was a research chemist in the DuPont Photo Products Department where he developed new materials for x-ray films. Chapman then worked for ten years as the principal scientist for Photo Systems in Dexter, Michigan. During that time, he developed over one dozen new photographic process chemical products, primarily for the home darkroom and newspaper markets.
His next position was principal process engineer for Kaiser Optical Systems in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Chapman's duties at Kaiser included the development of sensitized holographic film-coatings and wet chemistry processes. It was during this period-in the early 1980s-that his interests shifted towards the application of quality disciplines to product and process improvement. Dr. Chapman teaches full time in the MS degree Quality program at Eastern Michigan University. His teaching duties include courses in advanced SPC, designed experiments (DOE), reliability engineering and multivariate data analysis.
In 1987, Dr. Chapman started the consulting firm, Chapman & Associates. The charter of this company is to help organizations with product/process improvement using SPC, designed experiments, reliability studies and data mining. Dr. Chapman has been a contributing editor of Darkroom Techniques since 1981. He has also published in Macromolecules, Biopolymers, and Quality Engineering.

Areas of Expertise:

SPC; DOE; reliability; statistics; data mining; photochemistry
