GREAT LEARNING OPPORTUNITY!
JURORS NEEDED FOR MOCK TRIALS
The Michigan Clinical Law Program holds full jury trials every
semester on behalf of second & third-year law students who are
enrolled in Clinical Law I / Legal Advocacy Seminar.
This is an opportunity to see how a courtroom trial is conducted from
the inside. Jurors will sit on a jury which will actually deliberate
and decide a case after hearing evidence.
Jurors can select from whichever of these dates work best:
Monday, November 5 -- 1:30 - 4:30 pm
Tuesday, November 6 -- 1:30 - 4:30 pm
Wednesday, November 7 -- 1:30 - 4:30 pm
Thursday, November 8 -- 1:30 - 4:30 pm
Monday, November 12-- 1:30 - 4:30 pm
Wednesday, November 14 -- 1:30 - 4:30 pm
Thursday, November 15 -- 1:30 - 4:30 pm
The seven trials will all be criminal prosecutions. All of the cases
will be tried by student-lawyers who are training in the Law School's
general civil/criminal clinical program.
At each trial, the jurors will be questioned briefly about their
qualifications to serve, they will be sworn and the case will then be
heard. Jurors are then given proper legal instructions and are asked
to deliberate and decide the case. The exercise is intended to very
closely simulate a real trial. After the trial, jurors will have a
chance to talk with the law students, professors and judges. Each
trial should take approximately three hours.
The trials will all be conducted in the Moot Courtroom, Room 232
Hutchins Hall (which is the Law School building on the corner of
State and Monroe Streets).
Students interested in participating as jurors should contact Kathy
Norman Heady at: knheady@umich.edu or 734-936-4162.

Washtenaw County Bar Association
Great news! The
Washtenaw County Bar Association allows program students to become associate members!
Dues are minimal, and becoming a member and attending
Bar functions is a GREAT way to network, share information
with your peers, and get involved in bar association
activities. The Membership Application is available
for download in Word format here.
If you have any questions, contact
Kyeena Slater. Kyeena
is a member of the Program's Advisory Committee.
