  Dr. Morell D. Boone was appointed Interim Dean of the College of Technology on May 1, 2006. He has been a full-time member of the faculty of the College of Technology since May 1, 2001.
 

First, as a Professor in the Interdisciplinary Technology Department where he taught in the Communications Technology Program and served as coordinator of the Master's program. Second, as Interim Director and then Director of the School of Technology Studies.

Dr. Boone began his career at EMU in 1980 as Professor and Director of the Center of Educational Resources . In, 1986 he was appointed Professor and Dean of Learning Resources and Technologies. A position he held until April 2001. Beginning in 1993 until 2001 Dean Boone provided the leadership for visioning, design and program implementation of the Bruce T. Halle Library that opened in 1998. He began teaching part-time as a full professor in the College of Technology from 1999 to 2001. During the past 26 years he has been known as a proud member of the EMU family who puts students first in all that he does. As they say, “ he bleeds green & white.”

Prior to coming to EMU he was Dean of Learning Resources at the University of Bridgeport (CT), a member of the faculty at Syracuse University and Hobart and William Smith Colleges ( Geneva , N.Y. ). Dr. Boone did his graduate work at Syracuse University ending with his Ph.D. in Instructional Design, Development and Evaluation in 1980. He is a frequent contributor to academic publications and a presenter at national and international meetings regarding information technologies and their affect on the design of library and other learner-centered facilities. He serves on the editorial board of Library Hi Tech (Journal). His biography has been in every edition of Marquis Who's Who since 1986. In 2001 he was elected to the first group of honorees at his high school's Wall of Fame ( Pennridge High School , Perkasie , Pa. )
Dr. Boone has been active as an educational consultant both in the U.S. and internationally. In 1977, President Jimmy Carter recognized him at a State Dinner for his role as Chief-of-Party of an educational television project based in Tehran , Iran . While at EMU he was actively involved in EMU/USAID projects in Swaziland , Africa and the Yemen Arab Republic . Part of his continuing interest in our global society stems from his dual citizenship— U.S.A. and the Republic of Ireland (the country of his birth).



 
  Outside of EMU Dr. Boone is active in the Ypsilanti community. He is currently the President of the Ypsilanti Meals-On-Wheels Board of Directors and a past President of the Ypsilanti Educational Foundation. He lives in Ypsilanti Township with his wife Carolyn. They have two grown children--Ian who along with his wife Kelly are EMU graduates and Megan who graduated from the other green & white school up the road.
